Panel Designs
The new Panel Editor feature allows customers to take control over pre-fabrication processes. It enables multi-PCB designs to be panelised ready for plotting and on into the manufacturing stage.

The Panel Editor is more than just a plotting station; it allows panelisation of designs, addition of test coupons, fiducial markers, documentation and fabrication details. New facilities within it allow tab-routing paths to be defined. With control over the addition of tab direction, tab thickness, tab spacing and mouse bites, it enables accurate manufacture-ready breakout tabs to be created. V-Score paths can be added using the shape tools and then processed for manufacture, all within the Panel Editor environment.

Design Reuse

Apply Layout Pattern
Multiple group selection for design reuse has been added to enhance the current reuse placement algorithm. When a selection has been made, this can now be applied to multiple groups in the design.

Once placement has been made, multiple positional rearrangement options can also be applied to the existing design using a new placement pattern from the original design.

These two new options significantly save precious design time and ensure inaccuracies are removed from the process.

Cyclic design backups and security saves have been added for Pulsonix 8.5. The style of naming and backup criteria allows customisation of this critical process. Users are able to choose backup styles to allow incremental or decremental naming or infinite naming. Additionally, a Restore point can be chosen during the design process which can be recovered at any point. Multiple Restore points can be chosen either manually or automatically.

The visibility of Net Names in tracks has been added. As well as the display, control of the auto-hide zoom rate and font used have also been added. Visibility can be toggled on or off as a user preference.

The IPC-2581 netlist export is an intelligent vendor-neutral format that will serve as an alternative to traditional manufacturing outputs such as Gerber and ODB++. Pulsonix 8.5 will support this format in both its product and as a corporate consortium member.

Pulsonix 8.5 supports extensions to UCAMCO’s Gerber format to produce Gerber X2 compliant files. The Gerber X2 format supports essential design attributes which themselves more closely support the transfer of PCB designs to manufacturing.

Position Step Models
The introduction of a dynamic graphical positioning tool for adding STEP models to the footprint enables accurate visual association between the two items. By changing values within the dialog, instant visual feedback takes the guesswork out of positioning the STEP model. As an additional enhancement to all dialogs that use the STEP Filename attribute, the STEP Filename Model can be selected from a drop down list from the library. A new option, Save STEP Models, has been added to enable the ‘collection’ of all STEP Models used in the design and saved to a folder location. The dialog reports any items that have models or are missing models.

In order to provide access to enhanced libraries to users, agreements have been signed with specialist library companies; PCB Libraries, Accelerated Designs and SnapEDA. Each vendor providing different and unique libraries to enhance Pulsonix. Working with these vendors further cements the relationship by enabling Pulsonix users direct access to manufacturer’s parts on their web sites.

New Native Library Format

To facilitate the new Library Technology partnerships, the Pulsonix library manager has been enhanced to allow drag and drop methodology directly into the library using its new neutral format. Users simply drop the selected parts onto Pulsonix making them ready to use in one simple operation.

Application Programming Interface (API) – a new set of COM/.NET functions that expose analyses, tools, and editors to external programs. Most actions that can be performed manually inside the program can be called through the API, giving users the power to expand the program’s capabilities. The new API supersedes the antiquated DDE capability providing an extensive degree of control and is available in the Premium and Professional Editions. OpticStudio 15 can mimic a built in analysis by using the special API functions to generate plots, text, and dialogs that look native. Additionally OpticStudio 15 can serve as an optimization operand whose sole purpose is to calculate and return a value for optimization.


ISO 10110 XML Output and Prototype Estimator - export standard ISO 10110 drawing data of optical designs in XML format for manufacturing. The new XML format enables designers and manufacturers to develop automated processes for prototyping and fabricating lenses, potentially reading the data directly into a CNC or diamond turning machine.
The Lens Cost Estimator – a new tool in OpticStudio 15 Professional and Premium Editions uses the new XML export format to send lens prescriptions to a manufacturer and receive real-time prototype cost estimates. Optimax is the first manufacturer supported, and the Lens Cost Estimator will retrieve an estimate from the Optimax Estimate web application. The new Lens Cost Estimator combined with sensitivity optimization and tolerancing are powerful tools that assist the designer in achieving cost-effective solutions.
  



Photoluminescent Materials - are phosphors used in LEDs and fluorescent dyes used in biomedical imaging. Accurate modeling of photoluminescence requires not only spectral properties, but particle properties to account for the scattering that occurs in these materials.
OpticStudio 15 supports photoluminescence modeling with more realistic inputs. Designers define an absorption spectrum, excitation spectrum or quantum yield, emission spectrum, and particle parameters. These properties can be assigned to any volumetric object in non-sequential mode. In addition, data for several sample phosphor materials are included. This capability supersedes the more approximate waveshift model of photoluminescence and is included in the Premium Edition.

Object Editor – the first of several planned innovations offering users the option of design environment as some users prefer a spreadsheet paradigm, while others prefer a more CAD-like interface. This new feature available in the Premium and Professional Editions allows users to modify any object’s parameter through a graphical user interface similar to CAD programs. Design changes are synced through the entire system so that the editors stay up to date. This would be most useful to designers modeling non-sequential systems that are based upon 3D objects and coordinate systems.


Expanded Freeform Optics - OpticStudio supports several surfaces that can be used for freeform optical design, and all Editions of OpticStudio 15 include Chebyshev surface. This surface along with Zernike polynomials, general XY polynomials, NURB and Bezier splines offer powerful freeform design tools. As manufacturing methods have advanced, optical designers are now able to feasibly incorporate these types of surfaces into their systems. These surfaces can all be optimized and constrained to meet performance and manufacturing constraints.

Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS) today announced the availability of version 2.0 of its LucidShape® automotive lighting design software, which delivers a powerful new photorealistic visualization module for efficient performance evaluations early in the design cycle, as well as productivity-enhancing tools to enable faster, more accurate model creation. LucidShape 2.0 empowers automotive lighting engineers to develop, verify and deliver high-quality designs while reducing product development time.

Visualize Module

LucidShape's new Visualize Module delivers high-speed photorealistic images of an automotive lighting system's lit appearance, which demonstrate luminance effects when light sources in a model are illuminated. Because the Visualize Module depicts all interactions between system geometry and light sources, it provides designers with a physically correct diagnostic tool for evaluating how a lighting system will be perceived by the human eye. This is particularly important for evaluating automotive components such as turn signals and brake lights. The Visualize Module is a fast, reliable engineering tool that enables designers to perform design checks and make improvements early and often in the product development process.

The Visualize Module delivers these key capabilities:

Supports environment sources for the integration of 360-degree, high-dynamic range (HDR) photographic environments into photorealistic visualizations. Includes all physical and optical properties for an immersive, accurate rendering of a lighting scene.
Combines LucidShape's luminance camera and backward ray tracing to perform rapid, high-accuracy luminance calculations and generate photorealistic images at multiple angles and viewing directions.
Harnesses LucidShape's GPUtrace solution, which uses graphics processing unit (GPU) computing to accelerate illumination simulations by orders of magnitude compared to multithreading capabilities. The speed of the Visualize Module's simulations gives designers the flexibility to rapidly evaluate their models at any point in the design process.

Ray Data Viewer

The Ray Data Viewer now provided with LucidShape creates illuminance images based on ray data sources. This allows designers to quickly preview the lit appearance and structure of vendor light sources before incorporating them into their models. Sources can be viewed from various angles using a camera positioning capability.

Light Pipe Tool

The new Light Pipe Tool simplifies and speeds the creation of complete light pipe designs by allowing prism bands, which model sheets of prismatic microstructures, to be created in conjunction with light pipe surfaces in LucidShape. With this tool, the light pipe surface is automatically fit to the prism band and merged into a single new shape, producing a seamless, optically accurate light guide.

Measured Bidirectional Scatter Distribution Function (BSDF) Surface Material Library

LucidShape's material library, which provides a wide array of surface material and bulk volume media, has been expanded to include measured BSDF models from Synopsys' LightTools® illumination design software. The new measured BSDF data delivers unsurpassed accuracy for modeling surface scattering for materials commonly used in automotive lighting and can be expanded and customized by designers according to their unique requirements.
